Cooking Blog

Our class decided to grow an herb garden to see what it is like to be able to grow your own food. In the LULS project we did a lot of research on modern day people that grow their own food and take advantage of the resources around them. I think the point of growing our own herbs was to see that in reality it is really not that hard to live sustainably.

I made my guacamole, I used the cilantro from our class garden and organic tomatoes. My secret ingredient is: Tapatio(hot sauce)! Harvesting the cilantro was easy I just carefully pick of the little leaves and wrapped them in a wet paper towel.

Ingredients:

3 ripe avocados

2 organic tomatoes (chopped)

1 hard boiled egg

½ chopped onion

2 teaspoons of salt

3 tablespoons of cilantro

Tablespoon of Tapatio!

*Keep in mind the amount of each ingredient is up to your own personal liking!

My guacamole was really good! The way that I make guacamole is a little different then anyone else because the recipe I use, I got from Costa Rica. If I could go back and do something differently I would probably done a more exciting dish. Doing this whole growing herbs project has changed my opinion a lot on living sustainably. I use to think that I would be the biggest pain to have to grow food and then harvest it, yet after this whole project I had a completely different mind set. I realized how lazy I am, and how unmotivated our generation is.

Wex- I Believe

They told us she only had one more month left to live. When my family herd that im pretty sure every ones hearts sank. The doctors said that the treatment wasn’t working at all and the cancer wasn’t just in her chest, now is was spreading through out her whole body. From that day on we all hoped, prayed, and wished that she would get better. For weeks we all walked on egg shells thinking to our self’s ok it’s been about a month, that day is coming soon. Then one day we got a call from the doctors and they told us “we put her on a new medications and she now has about six more months to live”. The day my grandmother got to live is when I said to myself, “I believe in miracles”.

Wex- That feeling

My body started to shake and my heart wouldn’t stop pounding. I had never had this feeling before. It was so confusing one moment you are walking on water and then the next step you take you feel like you have fallin down twelve flights of stairs. I sat there and asked my self what was the matter, and this voice told me it was this little thing called love. Have you ever felt that you really love someone with your whole heart? Yet what happens when that person doesn’t love you back. It’s the worst feeling in the world that I’ve ever felt. You feel like you have literally given someone everything and they just threw it always.

The martinis are dry and strong. The phone rang a countless amount of times. She refused to answer the phone. When she finally picked up the screams of her maid came through the phone like boulders. As she drove past her fathers body guards, there stood behind them her fathers jet black range rover, with shot out tires and too many bullet holes to count. She felt the tears run down her face with a slight burn. Her heart seemed to stop at a quick halt. You could see the horrified look on her face, and her eyes filled with so many emotions fear, hurt, and hope. But the first thing that came to her mind when she saw the car was when she walked out of the house earlier that morning she forgot to say “ I love you dad”.

Ecological intelligence

Ecological intelligence is being aware of the way we use our planets resources today. Knowing that our planet is eventually going to run out of resources one day, and we need to use them wisely as we have them. It also has to do with the concept of "Going Green". This article relates to our project because it talks about ways to help the environment and "Go Green" and the main idea our project is to promote that. My ecological intelligence is definitely not very high up there, I would love to get more involved in activities in my community and become more "Green".

Urban Homestead

What really amazes me about this whole story is the fact that people can create kind of like a little farm in the middle of a urban suburb. The fact that these people are basically self dependent in our 21st century today. I think if the Dervaes family did a Wants Sheet they would have things like, more land so that they could grow more food and herbs. Another thing i think they would want is more tools for the garden so that they could be more time sufficient. I believe that more people in our culture today would accomplish things like that if they weren't so damn lazy.
